Mr. William Annison "Bill" Word, Sr., a devoted family man, passed away on Monday, April 7, 2025, at the age of 86, in Thomaston, Georgia. Born on November 24, 1938, in Piedmont, Alabama, Bill's life was marked by a profound commitment to service, both in his personal and professional endeavors.

Bill was a proud veteran, having served four years in the United States Marines. His military service instilled in him the values of discipline and dedication, which he carried into his civilian life. After completing his education at Piedmont High School, graduating in the class of 1957, he pursued a degree in Hospitality Management from Jacksonville State University. 

One of the cornerstones of Bill's professional journey was his role in management at the Officers Club at Ft. McClellan in Alabama. He later became a General Manager with Holiday Inn Hotels, showcasing his expertise in the hospitality industry. Later in life, he took on the role of Greeter at Harris Teeter, where his warm presence was always appreciated by customers. A significant highlight of his career came when he had the honor of serving as an assigned guard to Senator John F. Kennedy during a visit to the Pentagon, an experience he cherished throughout his life.

In personal pursuits, Bill was a member of Hughes Street Congregational Holiness Church in Piedmont, Alabama. His faith and passion for church music were integral elements of his life.

Bill was a treasured father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, leaving behind a legacy of love and family values. He is survived by his son, Timothy Sean Word (Amy) of Molena; his son, William A. "Bill" Word, Jr. of Acworth; his son, Weldon Judson Word of Thomaston; alongside six grandchildren—Morgan (Jeremiah), Trevor, Shelby, Cooper, Camden, and Caden—three great-grandchildren—Davon, Damoni, and Holland and several nieces and nephews. 

The family will hold a memorial service on Sunday, April 13, at 1:00 PM, at Center Point Church, 1427 US 41 Bypass, Griffin, GA 30224.

Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Juddie Williams Word, his parents, Rev. Emory "Dock" Word and Bertha Parrish Word, and his siblings, Jim, Terry, and Marty. His passing leaves a void in the lives of all who knew him, but his spirit and contributions will forever be remembered by family, friends, and the community he served.
