Mrs. Alice Craddock Shannon, 79, of Thomaston, died Friday, April 21, 2017, at Brightmoor Hospice in Griffin. A memorial service will be held Monday, April 24, 2017 at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Barber officiating. Mrs. Shannon's family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall of First Baptist Church on Monday from 1:00 PM until the service hour. Mrs. Shannon was born in Griffin on April 15, 1938, a daughter of the late Emmett Albert Craddock and Janice Pritchard Craddock. She was a 1956 graduate of Griffin High School. After high school she continued her education at LaGrange College and Georgia State College. While in high school she served as the Drum Major for the Griffin High School Marching Band. For many years Mrs. Shannon took dance lessons, specializing in tap, and culminating in an appearance on 'The Ted Mack Amateur Hour' in New York with two classmates. They formed a tap group under the name 'The Step Sisters'. Mrs. Shannon moved to East Point and worked for the National Biscuit Company. It was during this time that she met and married her husband, William David Shannon, on June 14, 1959. Their marriage lasted until his death in 2008. Mrs. Shannon moved to Thomaston with her family in 1968. She was employed by the Department of Transportation and retired 34 years later as a Right of Way Specialist. Mrs. Shannon was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Thomaston. She served as Director of the Women's Missionary Union for one year, and from 1997 to 2003 she served as director of the Centennial Baptist Association. Her other church activities included serving as a volunteer with the House of Care, a mission trip to Trinidad and Tobago on the ship Logos Hope and Sunday school activities. Mrs. Shannon is survived by two sons, William Michael Shannon (Starlyn) of Thomaston and Steven Craddock Shannon (Kim) of LaGrange; one sister, Kay Craddock Holloway (Gerald) of Thomaston; four grandchildren, Heather S. Green (Travis) , Chris Shannon (Lindsey), Abby Shannon and Brent Shannon (Christine); and three great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, 208 South Church St., Thomaston, GA 30286. Fletcher-Day Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
