Mrs. Brenda Gravitt Evans, 73, of Columbus, died Friday, May 17, 2019 at the home of her son, Travis Slaughter, in Thomaston. Funeral services for Mrs. Evans will be held on Monday, May 20th, 2019 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of the Fletcher-Day Funeral Home with Pastor Jereme Chaney officiating. Burial will follow in the Pine Mountain Cemetery in Meansville. The family of Mrs. Evans will receive friends at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home on Sunday from 7:00 until 9:00 PM. Mrs. Evans was born in Upson County on May 5th, 1946, a daughter of the late Thomas Charles (T. C.) and Hilda Noel Gravitt. She was a former resident of Live Oak, FL, where she opened and operated the Small World Pre-K School. She later moved to Columbus, attended Columbus State University, and earned a Masters of Arts Degree in English Literature. She taught in the Muscogee County School system. Mrs. Evans was a member of the Westwood Baptist Church in Live Oak. Mrs. Evans is survived by three daughters, Melody (Randy) McCoy of Jasper, FL, Clarissa (Rodney) Peterson of Pike County, and Amanda Evans of Live Oak; two sons, Travis (Dana) Slaughter of Thomaston and Chandler Evans of Canton; her sister, Cherry Crawford of Alabama; her brother, Tommy (Carol) Gravitt of Thomaston; twelve grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
