Mrs. Carole Jean Stephens Ash

Mrs. Carole Jean Stephens Ash, age 82, of Yatesville, died peacefully Sunday, April 16, 2023, at Somerby Assisted Living in Peachtree City, Georgia.


A funeral service for Mrs. Ash will be held Friday, April 21, at 10:00 AM, at Rock Springs Church with Dr. Benny Tate and Rev. Ken Peeples officiating. Interment will take place at 4:00 PM on Friday at Old Union Cemetery in Young Harris, Georgia. The family of Mrs. Ash will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home.


Mrs. Ash was born in Young Harris, Georgia, on December 17, 1940, a daughter of the late Harry A. Stephens and the late Lacey Nicholson Stephens. She was a 1958 graduate of Towns County High School, and she later in life earned her nursing degree from Gordon College. She was employed as a nurse for the Monroe County Hospital and later the Monroe County Health Department. She had also worked in home health and volunteered her time as a nurse. Prior to returning to college for her nursing degree, Mrs. Ash was a hairdresser with her salon being at her home. Her favorite hobby was gardening, and she was well known for her 1600 various varieties of daylilies. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband Raymond, and together they visited all 50 states and various countries with some of her favorites being Israel and Ireland. Mrs. Ash was a member of Rock Springs Church.


Mrs. Ash leaves behind to cherish her memory, her daughters, Carolyn (Rick) Arbuckle of Peachtree City; Lisa Baxter of Thomaston; her son, Jamey (Rachel) Ash of Thomaston; her sister-in-law, Genelle Gordon of Loganville; her nine grandchildren, Jonathan Payne, Nick (Bess) Arbuckle, Greg (J.D.) Arbuckle, Kelly (Mike) Arbuckle, Cody Baggett, Christina Baxter, Connor Ash, Brittany (Greg) Robertson, and Brandon Wilder; and her five great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.


In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ash was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond A. Ash, and her sister, Judy Stephens Denney.
