Mrs. Elizabeth Hammond Rackley, 101, of Thomaston, died Friday, August 26th, 2016 at her home. Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Rackley will be held on Sunday, August 28th, 2016 at 3:00 pm in the New Hope Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Yatesville with Brother Horace Pippin officiating. The family of Mrs. Rackley will receive friends at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home on Sunday from 1:30 until 2:30 pm. Mrs. Rackley was born in Thomaston on January 12, 1915, a daughter of the late J. B. and Alberta Blount Hammond. After graduating from high school she worked as a caregiver and later with the American Red Cross. She lived for a number of years in Statesboro and worked alongside her husband in his family grocery and seafood market. While in Statesboro she was a member of the Statesboro Methodist Church. After moving back to Thomaston Mrs. Rackley faithfully attended the New Hope Primitive Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening and watching birds. Mrs. Rackley is survived by a step-daughter, Frances Lanier of Statesboro; a brother, Joseph Hammonds of Thomaston; two nieces, Jolynn H. Maddox of Thomaston and Reta Bland of Statesboro; five nephews, Preston Wadsworth and Kenneth (Mary) Wadsworth, both of Quitman, Gary H. Tillman of Marietta, Steve H. (Teresa) Hammonds of Thomaston and Kim (Starr) Tillman of Athens; and several great nieces and great nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to the Meals on Wheels program at the Upson Senior Citizens Center, 302 S. Bethel St., Thomaston, GA 30286. Fletcher-Day Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
