Mrs. Ellen Perdue Bettis

Mrs. Ellen Perdue Bettis of Fayetteville, Georgia passed away at the age of 81 on February 24, 2025.

Ellen was born on March 5, 1943, to Magnus and Lucille Perdue in Thomaston, Georgia. She is a proud member of the R.E. Lee Institute Class of 1961 and graduated from the Piedmont School of Nursing in 1963. She was a registered Occupational Health nurse for over 35 years working at several companies, including the American Can Company.

She is survived by her husband of 35 years, ZW “Dub” Bettis and her four daughters: Angela Dixon, Wendy (Sam) Johnston, Dotsy Huffman, and Laura (Seth) Benefield. She is also survived by her much-adored grandchildren Jake (Jordan) Dixon, Sara (Kyle) Dearing, Anna (Will) Redding, Mary (Anders) Pederson, Sam (Yuriko) Johnston, Jane Benefield, and Dorsey Benefield. She also loved her new role of great-grandmother to Wade Dearing, Luca Redding, and Harper Dixon.

Survivors also include her beloved brothers and sisters Steve (Patsy) Perdue, Rita (Nick) Nicholson, John (Gail) Perdue, Teresa (Ronnie) Lowe, David (Linda) Perdue and many nieces and nephews.

Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Lonnie Huffman, and sisters, Jane Dunnahoo and Dotsy Perdue.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 11:00 at the Overton Chapel at Fayetteville First Baptist Church. The family will receive visitors at the church at 10:00. A graveside service will take place at Glenwood Cemetery in Thomaston at 1:00.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Ellen’s memory to the Piedmont Cancer Center, the Lupus Foundation of America, or the American Kidney Foundation.
