Mrs. Eloise Corley McSwain went to be with the Lord on November 21, 2017, at Mt. Bachelor Assisted Living Center, Bend, Oregon. She was 93 years old. A memorial service will be held in Thomaston on March 10, 2018 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel of the Fletcher-Day Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home on Saturday from 12:00 noon until the service hour. Eloise was born in Upson County, Georgia, on December 9, 1923, to Jonah Frank Corley and Ella (Bond) Corley. She graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1940. On February 15, 1941, she married Douglas W. McSwain in Yatesville, Georgia. They lived most of their lives in Thomaston, Georgia, except for a short time in Savannah and Toccoa. Doug passed away in 2001, but Eloise remained in Thomaston until 2010. Eloise worked in the accounting department of B. F. Goodrich’s Martha Mills office from 1954 until she retired in 1984. She was a dedicated member of the Baptist Tabernacle for over 60 years and served for many years in several capacities including church clerk and Sunday School teacher. She was very active in the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Gideons International. Eloise enjoyed visiting her daughter and grandchildren over the years and was able to travel to Washington, Oklahoma, Illinois, California, Oregon, and Korea. In 2010, she moved to Bend, Oregon, to be close to her daughter. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra McSwain Kent (Tony); her grandchildren, Amy Kent Borovich (Fred) and Col. John A. Kent, IV (Cindy); and five great-grandchildren.
