Mrs. Eunice Smith, age 99, of Thomaston, died Monday, January 1, 2018, at Brightmoor Hospice in Griffin, GA. Funeral services for Mrs. Smith will be held on Thursday, January 4, at 2:00 PM, at the Shiloh Baptist Church. Dr. Clarence Drummond and Mr. Wade Fuller will officiate, and burial will follow in the Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 PM until the funeral hour. Mrs. Smith was born August 11, 1918, in Crawford County, GA, to the late Hugh C. Hammock and Sophronia Ella Wilmot. She was a graduate of R. E. Lee Institute and was a homemaker, a great cook, and a fabulous mother-in-law. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Thomaston China Painters, and she enjoyed gardening. She was a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church for 86 years. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Smith, Sr.; two grandchildren: Benjamin Harrison Vining, III and Rhoda Grace Vining Simpson; and a sister, Mary Dora Bailey. She is survived by four children: Martha Faye Smith (Clarence) Drummond of Cumming, GA; Patricia Ann Smith (Harrison) Vining of Thomaston, GA; Chester B. (Carolyn) Smith, Jr. of Griffin, Ga; and Roger (Julia) Smith, of Thomaston, GA; three sisters-in-law: Hazel Huguley, Betty Smith, and Ibby Smith; 13 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and 11 great great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Memorial contributions may be made to Shiloh Baptist Church, 2737 Hwy 19 North, Thomaston, GA 30286.
