Mrs. Gay Yates Medcalf, 93, of Thomaston, died Friday, May 26, 2017, at her home. Funeral services for Mrs. Medcalf will be held Sunday, May 28, at 2:00 PM, in the chapel of Fletcher-Day Funeral Home. Rev. Brent Willis will officiate, and interment will follow in Crystal Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home. Mrs. Medcalf, a native of Lee Master, VA, was born on April 24, 1924, to the late Rev. Joseph and Rosa Hagy Yates. She attended business college, and later, she and her husband, the late Virgil T. Medcalf, Jr., owned and operated Medcalf Music Shop in Thomaston for many years. She was a member of the Thomaston Business & Professional Women's Club. Mrs. Medcalf had been a member of the First Baptist Church of Thomaston since 1955. She had taught Sunday School and was a member of the Welcome Class. In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Medcalf was predeceased by 8 brothers and sisters and a grandson, Marc Patrick Andrew. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Karen M. and Dewey C. White of Winder, GA, and a sister, Flossie Baldwin of Lee Master, VA. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Pass the Salt Ministry of First Baptist Church, 208 South Church St., Thomaston, GA 30286.
