Mrs. Hazel Barfield Hammock

Mrs. Hazel Barfield Hammock passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, September 8, 2020. Funeral services for Mrs. Hammock will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2020 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of the Fletcher-Day Funeral Home with Dr. Rex King officiating. Burial will follow in Upson Memorial Gardens. The family asks that social distancing guidelines be observed at both the funeral home and the graveside. Mrs. Hammock worked for over 22 years in the spinning department of Martha Mills Division of Thomaston Mills. She was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years Robert Lee Hammock; parents Bennett B. Barfield and Mary Elizabeth Sewell Barfield; and brothers Joseph, Jackie and Robert Barfield. She leaves behind three daughters Sandra Hammock Wainwright (Murrah), Janice Hammock Clay Mitchell (Marcus), and Caren Hammock Yates (Keith), all of Thomaston; and one bonus daughter Mary Painter Clay. Other survivors include seven grandchildren, Richie Clay (Jodie) of Sharpsburg, Kim Wainwright Baker (Dennis) of Montgomery, Al, Carla Clay Crider (Jerry) of Newnan, Jason Wainwright (Tracy), Chet Yates (Kelly), Mitch Yates, and Jerica Yates, all of Thomaston; 19 great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, and several nieces ,nephews and cousins. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mountain View Baptist Church Building Fund, 2569 Jeff Davis Road, Thomaston, GA 30286.
