Mrs. Jean McCrary Callaway, lovingly known as 'Mama Jean', 82, of Molena, died Monday, October 27th, 2014 at her home, surrounded by family and friends. Funeral services for Mama Jean will be held on Thursday, October 30th, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Molena with the Rev. Mark Harris officiating. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery. Mama Jean was born in Molena on March 1, 1932, daughter of the late Lewis Lester McCrary, Sr., and Martha Josephine Mattox McCrary. She graduated from the Concord-Molena High School. She earned her Bachelors Degree from Tift College, her Master's Degree from Mercer University and her Specialist's Degree from the University of Georgia. Mama Jean was employed for many years as curriculum director for the Pike County Board of Education. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority of Educators. She was also a member of several other organizations, including the Molena Civic Club, Pike County Arts Council (charter member and past president), and the Retired Teachers Association of Georgia. She was a life-long member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church, always dedicating her life and love to God's service. Mama Jean is survived by her daughter, Marcia (George) Ingram of Molena; four sons, Brian (Carol) Callaway and David (Amanda) Callaway, both of Molena, Glenn (Patty) Callaway of Concord, and Chip Callaway of Molena; a brother, Buck (Betty) McCrary of Molena; and four sisters-in-law, Martha Jo Paxson and Wynelle Ruark, both of Bostwick, Allie Webb Kilpatrick Hill of Milledgeville and Myra Folsom of Villa Rica; seventeen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and numerous and nephews. The family will receive friends at Pasley-Fletcher Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6 until 9 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 1177 Hwy 109, Molena, GA.
