Mrs. Jewell Brock Dawson was called home on Tuesday September 15, 2020. Mrs. Dawson was born in Atlanta on December 25, 1926. She was the youngest daughter of Ernest Ponder Brock and Nora Elizabeth Winslett Brock. The Brock family moved to Thomaston in the late 1930’s where Jewell graduated from R. E. Lee High School in 1944. She was a member of the Beta Club, National Honor Society and Glee Club among many other activities. After graduation Jewell worked in the bleachery at Thomaston Mills. She was one of the first operators when the mill installed a computer. Jewell married Norman E. Dawson in 1946 and they made their home in Thomaston until they moved to Forest Park in 1960. Jewell was a homemaker and faithful member of Forest Park Methodist Church. On September 10, 2006 Jewell Dawson Day was held in honor of 46 faithful years of service to the church. Jewell loved her Atlanta Braves. She attended many games and watched the rest on television, keeping up with how well each player was doing. After retirement Jewell and Norman travelled the United States extensively from Georgia to Maine and Alaska. Everyone that knew Jewell remembers her beautiful smile, contagious laughter and loving personality. She was adored by every person her path crossed. Just like the Apostle Paul Jewell was contented no matter what came her way in life. In addition to her parents Jewell was preceded in death by her husband Norman, sisters Mrs. Jessie Elizabeth Murphy, Mrs. Margaret Brock Ford and brother Mr. William Charlie Brock. She is survived by two children, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held to celebrate her life on Sunday, September 20, 2020 at 2:00 PM in Southview Cemetery with Rev. Dave Fisher officiating. The family of Mrs. Dawson will receive friends at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home on Sunday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Forest Park United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 1632, Forest Park, GA 30298. Fletcher-Day Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Condolences and remembrances may be expressed at www.fletcherdayfuneralhome.com
