Mrs. Joan Whitten Allen

Mrs. Joan Whitten Allen, age 87, of Columbus, GA, died Thursday, January 12, 2023, at Piedmont Northside Hospital Columbus. Private graveside funeral services will be held in Lamar Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Allen was born in Upson County on October 28, 1935, to the late Wesley Whitten and the late Ethel Maze Whitten. She was a graduate of Milner High School and had been employed with Carter's in Barnesville and Pratt Apparel.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Whitten was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Hugh Allen and a sister Millie Jo Stringfield.

Mrs. Allen is survived by three daughters: Donna Edenfield of Columbus, GA, Denise (Mark) Conner of Thomaston, GA, and Diane Young of Montgomery, AL; two brothers: Johnny Whitten and Jimmy (Sue) Whitten; 7 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 233 12th St., Suite 710, Columbus, GA, or to the Alzheimer's Association, 886 Mulberry St., Macon, GA 31201.
