Mrs. Joann Johnson Gore, age 86, of Thomaston died Thursday, March 3, 2022, after extended illness, in the comfort of her home with hospice care. Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Gore will be held on Monday, March 7, at 4:00 PM, at First Baptist Church of Thomaston, with Rev. Bill Barber and Rev. Paul Caspers officiating. Interment will follow the service in South View Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Sunday evening, at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home. Mrs. Gore was born June 22, 1935, in Thomaston to the late Henry “Roscoe” Johnson and Annie Grace Ellerbee Johnson. She grew up learning much about cooking and sewing from her mother and grandmother. After graduating from R.E. Lee in 1953, she moved to Atlanta and worked at C&S Bank. Later she met the love of her life, Bill on a blind date and then married on July 4th, 1958. Upon marriage, she joined the US Marine Corps as a true dedicated Marine wife, living on various bases around the country, strongly supporting her favorite Marine. After Bill’s retirement in 1970, they moved to Perry, and she began working at Kellwood Company. She spent over 20 years in Customer Service, Data Processing and Shipping and Purchasing. She left Kellwood and moved to Augusta, GA in 1997 to be with her daughter Vicky and family. There she enjoyed loving on her grandsons, serving in her church and various other activities. In 2005, she and the entire family moved to Thomaston to be closer to other family and making more enjoyable memories. Her activities included Prime Timers and Sunday School at First Baptist Thomaston, Hobby Club and working beside her husband with his activities. She loved cooking and entertaining with her family and playing games with her sisters. Mrs. Gore is survived by her daughter, Vicky Gardner and husband Keith of Thomaston, two grandsons of whom she was very proud, Russell Lamb and Clay Lamb of Atlanta, two sisters, Janell Hudson and Jackie VanHouten of Thomaston along with several nieces and nephews. Also, two caregivers, loving her through her illness, Connie Lambert and Carolyn Price and the sweet staff of Bridgeway Hospice. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gore was preceded in death by her husband, Capt. William Mack "Bill" Gore, USMC Ret.
