Mrs. John E. (Arva Tolbert) Holliman

HOLLIMAN, Mrs. John E. (Arva Tolbert), 89, of 316 Cherokee Rd., Thomaston, died Monday, November 29th, 2010 at Upson Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Holliman was born on September 2nd, 1921 to Mr. and Mrs. Max V. Tolbert of Calhoun, both of whom were educators in the Gordon County School system. Mrs. Tolbert was an elementary school teacher and Mr. Tolbert was a school principal. Mrs. Holliman was educated in the Gordon County school system and the attended the University of Georgia in Athens. During World War II Mrs. Holliman worked for the South Atlantic Division of the Army Corps of Engineers. It was there that she met Major John Emmett Holliman, whom she married on September 30th, 1944. Arva and John had two children, John, Jr., and Max. Mrs. Holliman dedicated her life to helping others and frequently visited residents of the nursing homes in Thomaston. She was active in the First United Methodist Church of Thomaston and she made every effort to take care of her family members in whatever was she could. Mrs. Holliman is survived by her son, Max Holliman of Thomaston; and her daughter-in-law, Dianne E. Holliman and her grandson, John Emmett Holliman of Shepperdstown, WV. It was Mrs. Holliman's request that flowers be omitted.
