Mrs. Juanita "Nita" Beverly Irvin

Mrs. Juanita "Nita" Beverly Irvin, 91, of Thomaston, died Friday, November 5, 2021, at Riverside Health and Rehab. Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Irvin will be held Sunday, November 7, at 2:00 PM, at South View Cemetery with Rev. Andy Cunningham officiating. Mrs. Irvin was born in Thomaston on October 24, 1930, to the late Clio Gray Beverly and Elna Ruth Rogers Beverly. She was a 1947 graduate of R. E. Lee Institute, attended Georgia Southwestern College (1947-1949), earned a B.S. degree in education from Georgia State College for Women (1954), and earned her graduate degree from the University of Georgia (1956). She retired in July, 1992, after completing a career of thirty years. She taught kindergarten in the Thomaston City Schools (1949-1954), second and third grades in Barrow School of Athens, GA (1954-1956), second grade at Yatesville School (1969-1971), and sixth grade at R. E. Lee Jr. High School (1971-1992). She was Teacher of the Year in the Thomaston City School System in 1985. Mrs. Irvin was a member of the Thomaston-Upson Retired Educators Association, a life member of the GA Retired Educators Association, a past member of Delta Kappa Gamma (an organization for women educators). She was a past president of the LaGrange, GA Junior Woman’s Club, and she was a member of the Upson Regional Medical Center Auxiliary where she served on the yearbook committee and was co-chairman of the Lights for Life project. She had also served on the Thomaston Historic Preservation Commission. Mrs. Irvin was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Thomaston where she taught Sunday School for more than twenty years. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Irvin was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Kash Irvin; a daughter, Beverly Irvin DuPree; a sister, Agnes Grace Beverly Harp; and a brother, James Anderson Beverly. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Irvin (Bill) Andrews of Thomaston; her son: Mark M. (Lauri) Irvin, of Thomaston; six grandchildren Mandy Dimling, Elise (K. J.) Delli-Gatti, Mary Ann (Seth) Coker, John Mathis, Ann Margaret Irvin, and Caroline Irvin; and seven great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church of Thomaston and designated for either the Pass the Salt ministry or the TV ministry.
