Mrs. Julia Elliott Greer, 84, of Thomaston, died Monday, May 2, 2022, at Upson Regional Medical Center. Funeral services for Mrs. Greer will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2022, at 4:00 PM, at the First Baptist Church of Thomaston. Rev. Bill Barber will officiate, and interment will follow in Glenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday from 2:30 until 4:00 PM. Mrs. Greer was born in Atlanta, GA, on May 6, 1937, to the late B. Nall Elliott and Cora New Elliott, but she had been a resident of Thomaston since childhood. She was a 1955 graduate of R. E. Lee Institute and a 1959 graduate of Wesleyan College. Mrs. Greer was a member of the John Houston Chapter of DAR and the Spade and Trowel Garden Club. She had served as PTO president at Westwood School and enjoyed playing Bridge. Mrs. Greer was an avid animal lover. She loved all creatures great and small, from the tiniest hummingbird to a purring, lazy cat. She handled her MS diagnosis with dignity and grace. She always wore a loving smile and spoke a southern greeting. She loved her family, and she doted on her grandchildren who were her pride and joy. Mrs. Greer was a member of First Baptist Church where she taught the high school girls' Sunday School class for more than twenty-five years and claimed her Bonoth Sunday School class members as her sisters in Christ. She will be missed by so many, especially by her family. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Greer was preceded in death by her husband, Jere P. Greer who owned the Jere Greer Store for Men. She is survived by her daughter, Powell (Chris) Hosey of Thomaston; her son, Patrick Greer of Thomaston; four grandchildren: Mary Beth (Stephen) Powers, Elliott (Dan) Ellington, Tripp Greer, and Julianne Hosey.
