Mrs. Laura L. Burkett

Mrs. Laura L. Burkett, age 93, formerly of Thomaston, died Friday, December 1, 2023, at The Landing of Winder.

Funeral services for Mrs. Burkett will be held Thursday, December 7, at 2:00 PM at Mountain View Baptist Church. Dr. Ryan Christopher and Dr. Rex King will officiate, and interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Burkett was born in Griffin, Georgia, on December 19, 1929, to the late Rev. John Jackson Cox and the late Mattie Lou Corley Cox. She was retired from the William Carter Company with over twenty years of service. Mrs. Burkett was a founding member of Mountain View Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Burkett was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Douglas Burkett and her grandson, Bryant N. "Nate" Harp. She is survived by three daughters: Robyn (Jesse) Simpson of Hoschton; Fran (Col. Ret. Bryant) Harp of Cameron, Montana; and Charlotte (Mike) Morris of Thomaston; two sisters: Patricia (Reginald) Poteat of Laurinburg, North Carolina, and Jeanette Shepard of Thomaston. Nine grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren also survive.
