Mrs. Leah Virginia McAlum Johnson, 91, of Thomaston, died Sunday, July 15th, 2018 at her home. Funeral services for Mrs. Johnson will be held on Tuesday, July 17th, 2018 at 1:00 PM at The Gathering Church with Rev. Johnny Brazelton officiating. Burial will follow in South View Cemetery. The family of Mrs. Johnson will receive friends at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home on Monday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Mrs. Johnson was born in Alamo, GA., on September 26th, 1926, a daughter of the late Lem Lee and Bessie Browning McAlum. She had lived in Upson County for the past 43 years. She had been employed by Thomaston Mills but was primarily a homemaker. Mrs. Johnson was of the Baptist faith and had attended Twin Oaks Baptist Church. Mrs. Johnson is survived by three daughters, Peggy Lou (Ronnie) Sheppard, Betty Jean (Bobby) Salter, and Debra (Junior) Smith, all of Thomaston; and four sons, Rookie (Brenda) Johnson of Cumming, Jerry Bee (Ann) Johnson of Winder, Donald Lee (Lynn) Johnson of Thomaston, and Stevie (Darlene) Johnson of Cumming. Seventeen grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren also survive. In addition to her parents Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, James Coolidge Johnson.
