Mrs. Margaret Jane Gerwig Strouss

Mrs. Margaret Jane Gerwig Strouss, 97, of Thomaston, died Wednesday, August 17th, 2016 at her home. Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Strouss will be held on Friday, August 19th, 2016 at 11:00 AM in South View Cemetery with Dr. Glenn Gilstrap officiating. The family of Mrs. Strouss will receive friends at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home on Friday from 9:30 until 10:30 AM. Mrs. Strouss was born on October 20, 1918, in Pittsburgh, PA, to Homer Christian Gerwig and Jessie Harris Gerwig. She was a graduate of the Ellis School, Pittsburgh and Wells College, Aurora, NY. She was employed by the Union National Bank of Pittsburgh until her marriage in 1954 to Richard Fisher Strouss, when she came to Thomaston to live. She had been a member of the Spade and Trowel Garden Club and the Alpha Epsilon Chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Thomaston. Mrs. Strouss is survived by her son, Richard Fisher Strouss, Jr., daughter-in-law Mary Dayton Strouss; granddaughters, Jessica Ann Strouss (Eric) Walker and Sara Margaret Strouss; and great grandchildren Chloe Walker, Payton Walker and Amelia Jane Walker. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 403 Birdsong St., Thomaston, GA 30286.
