Mrs. Marie Hilley Hester

Mrs. Marie Hilley Hester, 84, of Thomaston, died Friday, February 3, 2017, at her residence. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 5, at 2:00 PM, in the chapel of Fletcher-Day Funeral Home. Dr. Rex King will officiate, and burial will follow in South View Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon from 1:00 until 2:00 PM. Mrs. Hester, the youngest of seven children of the late Larry Erstin and Lucia May Parnell Hilley, was born July 8, 1932, in Abbeville, SC. She later moved to Thomaston and married the late Dr. James Alfred Hester. Mrs. Hester, an avid golfer, was a longtime member of the Thomaston Country Club and the Deer Trail Country Club of Barnesville, GA, as well as a local garden club. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Thomaston. In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Hester was predeceased by three brothers: James Hilley, D.T. Hilley, and Irvin Hilley; and two sisters: Reba Pippin and Parnice Ware. She is survived by a daughter, Sarah Hester (Scott) Ross of Colorado Springs, CO; a son, Jim (Debra) Hester of Thomaston; a sister, Sara Hilley Jenkins, of Savannah, GA; four granddaughters: Ashley Hester (Dusty) Turner and Lynsey Marie Hester, both of Thomaston, and Claire and Emma Ross, both of Colorado Springs, CO; three great grandchildren: Jake Helms, Zayn and Zoey Norris, all of Thomaston; and two half brothers, Larry Hilley and Wiley Hilley, both of Thomaston.
