Mrs. McNeely was born on December 13, 1920, in Macon, Georgia to the late Thomas Hezekiah Starling and Irene Lamar Barker Starling. She came to Thomaston with her family during the Great Depression and graduated from R. E. Lee Institute. She later moved to Macon and worked as a bookkeeper at Robins Air Force Base and at Wesleyan College. She would always maintain a particular fondness for Wesleyan and for Macon. Outside of work, Mrs. McNeely was a loyal member of the First United Methodist Church, the Service Sunday School Class, the Upson Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, and the Upson Historical Society. At home she loved to work in her yard and made sure there were flowers blooming all year long. In addition to her parents, Mrs. McNeely was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Everett McNeely, two brothers: Hugo Starling and Edward 'Josh' Starling, and a step daughter, Dr. Janet A. McNeely. Survivors include a step daughter, Dr. Annette Young of Easley, SC; a step son, Tom (Susan) McNeely of Conyers, GA; a sister-in-law, Betty Starling of The Rock, GA; two nieces: Tina (Dale) Epperson and Ginger Starling, both of Columbus, GA; 7 step grandchildren: Dr. Dennis Young, Jennifer Cott, April (Donny) Crenshaw, Amy (Glen) Cornelius, Dr. Jay (Shoaleh) Young, Alvin McNeely and Margaret (Wade) Ellis; 18 step great grandchildren; one step great great grandson; and special friends Rosanna and Steve Hand. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Thomaston, The Rock Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, or the Upson County Cancer Car Ministry.
