Mrs. Mildred Jones Smith, 87, of Fayetteville and formerly of Thomaston, died Thursday, July 10th, 2014 at Lafayette Transitional Care and Rehab in Fayetteville. Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Smith will be held on Saturday, July 19th, 2014 at 11:00 a. m., in South View Cemetery with Rev. Leon Newman officiating. Mrs. Smith was a native of Thomaston and lived here until 1983, when she moved to Atlanta. She was a graduate of R. E. Lee Institute and an alumna of West Georgia College in Carrollton. While living in Thomaston she was an active member of the First Baptist Church and served as a Sunday School teacher, president of the WMU, GA leader and Cub Scout Den leader. She also served as president of the Lee Grammer School PTA. After moving to Atlanta she joined the First Baptist Church of Decatur and took an active role in the life of that church. Mrs. Smith is survived by two daughters Jill Smith (Dana) Entrekin of Peachtree City and Kay (Jake) Smith of Carrollton, TX; a son, Al (Debbie) Smith of Atlanta; nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and four nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Smith; a daughter, Dawn Smith Moore, and a sister, Colleen Dumas. The family of Mrs. Smith will receive friends at Pasley-Fletcher Funeral Home on Saturday, July 19th, 2014 from 9:30 until 10:45 a. m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association, 886 Mulberry St., Macon, GA 31201.
