Mrs. Mildred Vining Fain

April 7, 1922 — May 11, 2020

Mrs. Mildred Vining Fain, age 98, of Thomaston, passed away Monday morning, May 11, 2020, at Riverside Health and Rehab. Memorial services for Mrs. Fain will held on Saturday, July 11, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Fletcher-Day Funeral Home. Rev. Bill Barber will officiate and a private family inurnment will follow the service in Upson Memorial Gardens. Friends are asked to observe social distancing guidelines. Mildred was born April 7, 1922 to Mary Lily Beverly Vining and Thomas B. Vining. She was a life long resident of Thomaston with only a brief time in Forsyth, Georgia. She graduated from R.E. Lee Institute. Mildred was married to Roy W. Fain, Sr. until his death in 1998. Mildred was a housewife until taking a job at William Carter Company. Her plan was to work just long enough to buy a new living room suit but she decided to continue working and retired after 30 plus years. Upon her retirement she would work as a substitute teacher at R.E. Lee, was a volunteer Pink Lady at URMC for 18 years, and called bingo at Riverside and West Village for many years. She was member of the First Baptist Church of Thomaston and a member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class and later the Builders Sunday School Class. In her later years, she enjoyed visiting her friends and taking them goodie bags. During her entire life she enjoyed travel, including trips to the mountains, beach, cruises, and flying to see her son. She was a life long Atlanta Braves Fan. Mildred is preceded in death by her parents, Mary Lily and Thomas B. Vining, her husband, Roy W. Fain, Sr., and her sister, Hilda Vining Hawkins. She is survived by her daughter, Patsy (Steve) Perdue, her son, Roy (Susan) Fain, Jr., grandchildren, Sheri (John) Rhodes, Cindi (Michael) Hane, Michael (Janet) Perdue, Ashli Fain and Adam (Jamie) Fain, great grandchildren, Will and Eryn Rhodes, Amelia and Clarissa Hane, Landon and Mason Perdue. She also leaves behind many cherished friends and her loyal caregiver, Linda. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Pass the Salt Ministries at First Baptist Church, Thomaston-Upson Humane Society, or a charity of your choice. The family would also like to thank the care teams at Riverside Health and Rehab for their unwavering support, care and comfort during our mom’s entire stay at Riverside. They were all able to enjoy her giving spirit, humor, and stubbornness and there are no words to say how much the family appreciates all of you. Fletcher-Day Funeral of Thomaston is in charge of all arrangements. Condolences and remembrances may be expressed at www.fletcherdayfuneralhome.com
