Mrs. Ophelia Sams Hicks

Mrs. Ophelia Sams Hicks, age 86, of Thomaston, died Friday, August 2, 2024, at Upson Regional Medical Center. Funeral Services for Mrs. Hicks will be held Tuesday, August 6, at 2:00 PM, in the chapel of Fletcher-Day Funeral Home with Rev. Eddie Mathews officiating. A private Interment will follow in the Turner's Chapel Cemetery in Butler, GA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 1:30 until the funeral hour.

Mrs. Hicks was born in Upson County on December 19, 1937, to the late Eugene Sams and Bessie Hortman Sams. She was a graduate of Taylor County High School and worked as a bookkeeper for many years. After retirement, she was a caregiver. Mrs. Hicks was a member of the Kings Chapel Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hicks was preceded in death by two sisters, Rosebud Dukes and Leila Mullins, and two brothers, Roger Sams and Sammy Sams. She is survived by her sons: Dennis (Janice) Whitaker, Kenneth Whitaker, Chuck Hicks, and Russell Hicks; and beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren.
