Mrs. Phyllis Gordy Gilbert

Mrs. Phyllis Gordy Gilbert, 95, of Thomaston, died Saturday, July 27th, 2019 at Riverside Health and Rehab. Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Gilbert will be held on Monday, July 29th, 2019 at 2:00 PM in the Valley Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Bill Barber officiating. Mrs. Gilbert was a life-long resident of Thomaston, born on May 23rd, 1924 to the late Walter Andrew and Lula Agnes Barron Gordy. She was a graduate of the R. E. Lee Institute Class of 1941. Mrs. Gilbert was a member of the First Baptist Church of Thomaston for over 65 years. She taught four-year-old Sunday School Class and Vacation Bible School, and volunteered at the House of Care. She and her husband, the late Alton Nathaniel Gilbert, were married for over 55 years. In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Gilbert was preceded in death by a son, Alton Nathaniel Gilbert, Jr., in 1975. Mrs. Gilbert is survived by her daughter, Marilyn G. (John) Thomas of Decatur; and her son, Glenn (Lori) Gilbert of Marietta. Five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren also survive. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, 208 South Church St., Thomaston, GA 30286. Fletcher-Day Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
