Mrs. Rachel Buchanan Piland

Mrs. Rachel Buchanan Piland, 65, of Thomaston, died Saturday, November 6, 2021, at her residence. Memorial services for Mrs. Piland will be held Tuesday, November 9, at 6:00 PM, in the chapel of Fletcher-Day Funeral Home. Rev. Jason Weems will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 PM until the service hour. Mrs. Piland was born December 8, 1955, in Macon, GA, to the late James Edward Buchanan, Sr., and Clara Mae Argo Buchanan. She grew up in Warner Robins, GA, and was a 1974 graduate of Warner Robins High School. Mrs. Piland earned a BS degree in Criminal Justice from Georgia Southern College in 1978, and she later earned a masters degree in Special Education from the University of West Georgia. She was retired from the Thomaston-Upson School System with twenty-seven years of service. She loved the Atlanta Braves. Mrs. Piland was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Piland was preceded in death by a brother, James Edward "Jimmy" Buchanan, Jr. She is survived by her husband, Keith Piland of Thomaston; two daughters: Ashley (Mark) Bostwick of Zebulon and Kristin Meeks of Thomaston; a brother, Ron (Theresa) Buchanan of Griffin; seven grandchildren: Tanner Meeks, Asher Meeks, Konner Meeks, Chloe Meeks, Chandler (Abigail) Blessitt, Caleb Bostwick, and Gabriel Bostwick, and four great grandchildren: Noah Bostwick, Ava Kulp, Lakin Blessitt, and Lane Blessitt. Several nieces and nephews also survive. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Upson County Empty Stocking Fund, P.O. Box 375, Thomaston, GA 30286 or donations can be dropped off at the Heritage Pregnancy Center. Fletcher-Day Funeral Home of Thomaston is in charge of all arrangements.
