Mrs. Rainera V. Melvin, 87, of Thomaston, died Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at Thomaston Manor. Mrs. Melvin was born in Rota, Spain, on March 28, 1933, a daughter of the late Jose Tirado and Consuelo Tirado. She came to the United States as a military bride and became a United States citizen in 1972. She was proud to be an American. Mrs. Melvin lived in Waycross from 1964 until 2000. While in Waycross she was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. After moving to Thomaston Mrs. Melvin became a member of St. Peter The Rock Catholic Church. Mrs. Melvin is survived by three children, Joseph R. Melvin of Waycross; Carmen (Bob) Westerfield of Thomaston and Lisa (Benton) Johnson of Rogers, AR; four grandchildren, Zach and Grace Westerfield, Maria Westerfield, Elizabeth Johnson and Luke Johnson; and two great grandchildren, Mason and Jackson Westerfield. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Reaves Melvin. After a private funeral mass in Thomaston, celebrated by Father Thomas Zahuta, Mrs. Melvin will be interred in the Oakland Cemetery in Waycross on Friday, September 11, 2020. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter The Rock Catholic Church, P. O. Box 280, The Rock, GA 30285. Fletcher-Day Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
