Mrs. Ruth M. Warren

March 6, 1919 — March 10, 2017

Mrs. Ruth M. Warren, 98, of Thomaston, died Friday, March 10th, 2017 at her home. Mrs. Warren was born on March 6th, 1919 in Lumber City, one of eight children of the late Walter and Annie Shaddix McClellan. She was the valedictorian of her high school and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Berry College in 1940. Following her college graduation Mrs. Warren moved to Thomaston to become the Upson County Extension Service Agent. Here she met and married her husband, the late Joseph W. “Joe” Warren. The two later moved to Griffin where Mr. Warren began his career in insurance sales. Mrs. Warren became the Home Extension Agent in Griffin until deciding to stay home and raise her family. Mrs. Warren served as a Cub Scout Den Mother and also a Girl Scout Leader. She was a member of the First Methodist Church in Griffin and was active in children’s Sunday school, children’s choir, and in preparing Methodist Youth Fellowship meals. Upon moving to Thomaston, Mrs. Warren transferred her church membership to the First United Methodist Church of Thomaston. Mrs. Warren was adept at growing beautiful flowers and vegetables. She was also an accomplished baker and enjoyed knitting clothing for her family. Mrs. Warren moved back to Thomaston after her husband’s death to be near to her family and to be an integral part of their lives. Even as her health failed she cherished the daily visits from her grandchildren and her great grandchildren. Her faith remained strong and her Bible is worn and tattered from underline and highlighting verses. She found comfort and assurance in church hymns and even insisted on standing with the support of her walker when The Hallelujah Chorus was being sung by a choir on television. Mrs. Warren is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Angela Warren and Larry Chambers; a son, Joseph W. (Janet) Warren, Jr., of Ringgold; a special daughter, Harolyn Castleberry of Thomaston; a sister, Zell M. Shewbert of Spring, TX; a sister-in-law, Helen Warren Echols; five grandchildren, Christopher (Christine) Warren of Chattanooga, TN, Laurie (Stephen) Holmes and Lindsey (Judson) Matthews, both of Thomaston, Emily Nall (Brandon) Patch of Rome, and Will (Ashley) Nall of St. Petersburg, FL; and eight great grandchildren. She was also blessed to have loving caregivers, Juanita, Lula, Hazel, Maggie and Margie. Memorial services for Mrs. Warren will be held on Sunday, March 12th, 2017 at 4:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church in Thomaston with Rev. Rick Marson officiating. The family of Mrs. Warren will receive friends at the church following the service. Private burial services will be held in the Antioch United Methodist Church Cemetery.
