Mrs. Sandra Johnson Miller, 80, of Thomaston, died Friday, May 15, 2020, at her residence. Memorial services for Mrs. Miller will be held on Sunday, May 17, 2020, at 2:00 PM at the Miller residence with Rev. Andy Cunningham officiating. Mrs. Miller was born in Columbus on October 25, 1939, a daughter of the late Laney Noel and Hendrika Brandt Johnson. She was a graduate of Columbus High School and was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Georgia. She was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. Mrs. Miller was a former swimming instructor at the Thomaston Recreation Center Pool. She was a Red Cross swimming instructor, teaching senior life saving and adult swimming. Mrs. Miller was a master potter and was the owner of Sandra Miller Pottery. She was the coordinator of the Britt David Pottery Studio in Columbus for many years. Mrs. Miller was active in the Thomaston-Upson Arts Council and the Friends of the Hightower Memorial Library. She was also active in the Community Care Thrift Store and was a member of the Upson Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. She was a member of the St. Thomas of Canterbury Episcopal Church. Mrs. Miller is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Brighte Miller (Thomas) Godfrey of Thomaston, Dr. Laney Miller Smith of Peachtree City, Mrs. Rachel Miller (Daniel) Eidson of Marietta, Mrs. Carolyn Miller (Jonathan) Bentley of Hamilton, and Mrs. Shelly Miller (Russell) Helms of Watkinsville; two sons, Hon. Ben J. (Mandy) Miller of Thomaston and Dr. John J. Miller of Newnan; 14 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by her husband, Hon. Ben J. Miller, Sr. Memorial contributions may be made to Thomaston-Upson Arts Council, P. O. Box 211, Thomaston, GA 30286, or the Community Care Thrift Store, 108 Short E St., Thomaston, GA 30286.
