Mrs. Sandra "Sandi" Ferrell Standard

Mrs. Sandra “Sandi” Ferrell Standard, 74, of Thomaston, passed away at her home on Friday, March 24, 2023, with her husband by her side. No services are planned at this time.

Mrs. Standard was born, on August 1, 1948, the third daughter of the late Anthony J. Ferrell and the late Faye Bulloch Ferrell, in Pelham, GA, but she lived most of her life in Thomaston. Mrs. Standard was a 1966 graduate of R. E. Lee Institute and attended Georgia Southwestern College in Americus before transferring to the University of Georgia. She earned a teacher’s degree with a major in Business Finance, graduating in 1969. After teaching for a while at Jonesboro High School, she changed her occupation in the 1970’s and was employed by the Department of Family and Children Services in Thomaston. She married Andy Andrews in 1969, and they had a son, Matthew David Andrews, in 1976. Andy, a Georgia State Trooper, died in a car crash during a chase in 1977. In 1978, she married her high school sweetheart, B. C. Standard, and together they had a son, Benjamin C. Standard, in 1979. At that time Mrs. Standard decided to leave her position as acting director of the Thomaston DFACS office to become a full-time homemaker. In the 1990’s she served as office manager for the Georgia State Troopers’ Association. She decided to make another career change, and she graduated from Gordon State College with a nursing degree. She worked as an registered nurse at Upson Regional Medical Center until 2008 when she retired due to health reasons.

In addition to her parents and her first husband, Mrs. Standard was preceded in death by two older sisters, Toni Shirah and Libby Blanton. She is survived by her husband, B. C. Standard; a daughter, Chris Standard (Rodney) Stansell; two sons: Matt (Donna) Andrews and Ben (Brandy) Standard; a grandson, Jake Stansell; two granddaughters: Joiee Stansell and Kate Andrews; a great grandson, Braxton Evans; two nieces: Diane (Terry) Bloodworth and Kristina Kelly; and two nephews: Scott (Becky) Shirah and Mark (Karen) Kelly.
