Mrs. Sara Elizabeth “Betsy” Moore White, age 98, of Thomaston, died August 13, 2020 at Upson Regional Medical Center. Burial services will be private with a memorial service to be held at a later date. Mrs. White was born in Murray County, Georgia on August 6, 1922 to the late George and Lennie Dunn Moore. In addition to her parents she is also preceded in death by husband Lamar White, Sr.; five brothers, Buford Moore, Madge Moore, Hoyt Moore, Tarver Moore and George Moore; and four sisters, Kathleen Boatwright, Marie Moore, Violet Walton, and Lucile Meeks. Betsy moved to Griffin, Georgia to attend business school where she met and married her husband Lamar. They moved to Thomaston in 1956 when Lamar was named manager of Thomaston Coca Cola Bottling. Betsy was employed by the City of Thomaston in the Clerk’s office for many years. After her retirement she became active in the community and in the First Methodist Church. She lost her sight in 2002 but not her spirit. She became a resident of West Village where she thrived, surrounded by a loving staff and many close friends. Mrs. White is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Wayne Dodgen, and her son and daughter-in-law, Lamar and Lucy White. She is also survived by one brother, Bobby (Thelma) Moore and five grandchildren, Lara (Patrick) Greer, Blake (Ann Marie) Watts, Marla Baird, Marie White, and Marc White. Six great grandchildren also survive, Elliott (Dan) Ellington, Tripp Greer, Duncan Watts, Zoe Watts, Max White and Jenna White. Memorial contributions may be made to the Thomaston First Methodist Church, P. O. Box 707, Thomaston, GA 30286; the Gordon College Scholarship Fund, 419 College Drive, Barnesville, GA 30204; or the West Village Retirement Center, 409 West Goodrich Ave., Thomaston, GA 30286.
