Mrs. Shirley Ann Jenkins Mcclellan

Mrs. Shirley Ann Jenkins McClellan, age 78, of Thomaston, died Friday, May 27, 2016, at West Village Retirement Community. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 30, at 11:00 AM, in the Chapel of the First United Methodist Church of Thomaston. Rev. Herb Flanders will officiate, and burial will follow in South View Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening, May 29, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home. Mrs. McClellan, daughter of the late Sam William and Effie Sellers Jenkins, was a native of Statesboro. She was Valedictorian of the Class of 1955 at Georgia Teachers College Lab School, and she earned a degree in Business Education in 1959 from Georgia Teachers College.. She was a long-time educator in the Thomaston and Upson County School Systems where she taught business education classes, and she had also taught in the high school division of Gordon Military College. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Thomaston, the Georgia Retired Educators Association, the Thomaston-Upson Retired Educators Association, and the Thomaston-Upson Arts Council. Mrs. McClellan was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Vance McClellan. She is survived by her daughter, Melanie McClellan (Gary) Rowley of Ft. Bragg, NC; three grandchildren: Ashley, Sam, and Jacob Rowley, of Ft. Bragg, NC; a niece, Patricia (John) Ackermann of Dahlonega, GA; a nephew, Bryce (Lindsay) Mouchet of Ft. Gordon, GA, and other nieces and nephews.
