Mrs. Shirley L. Coley, age 79, of Thomaston, died Thursday, August 4, 2022, at Upson Regional Medical Center. A graveside service for Mrs. Coley will be held Sunday, August 7, at 2:00 PM, at South View Cemetery with Rev. Joey Smith officiating. Mrs. Coley was born November 28, 1942, in Manchester, to the late J. T. Long and Vivian McGraw Long. She was employed for many years with Thomaston Mills in the lab. She later was a bookkeeper for the Texas Cattle Company. Mrs. Coley was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Coley is survived by her son, Gregg Coley of Thomaston; her sister, Joyce Green of Thomaston; her brother, Jim Long of Columbia, South Carolina; four grandchildren, Heather (Nick) Kight, Steven Coley, Suzanne (Christopher) Nichols, and Stephanie Coley; one great-grandchild Sara Nichols; and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are a host of special friends and neighbors. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence R. Coley, her son, Steven Mark Coley, her sister, Annette Holland, and her brother and sister-in-law, James “Bud” and Jane Long. Fletcher-Day Funeral Home of Thomaston is in charge of all arrangements.
