Mrs. Sue Self Grubbs, 78, of Thomaston, died Monday, March 18, 2019, at her residence. Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Grubbs will be held on Saturday, March 23rd, 2019 at 2:00 pm in Upson Memorial Gardens with Rev. Charles Bennett officiating. The family of Mrs. Grubbs will receive friends at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home on Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Mrs. Grubbs was born in Thomaston on April 4, 1940, daughter of the late Fred Glenn and Clinton Dora Barfield Self. She was employed as a systems analyst and program manager for Computer Systems Command of the Department of the Army in Fort Belvoir, VA. She was a graduate of the U. S. Army Command General Staff College and retired with 31 years of civil service. Mrs. Grubbs served as secretary for the Upson Historical Society for 13 years. She was an avid golfer and had worked for Edwin Watts Golf in Destin, FL. She was of the Baptist faith. Mrs. Grubbs is survived by two sons, Clifford Jay "Cliff" (Julie) Porter of Powder Springs and Clayton Dale (Jeanette) Porter of Lakewood, CO; her brother, Gary Self of Thomaston; six grandchildren, Sydnie Porter, Summer Porter, Hunter Porter, Kristen (Blake) Prince, Michelle (Brandon) Rodgers, and Michael Porter; and two great grandchildren, Everitte and Emma Rodgers. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Upson Historical Society, P. O. Box 363, Thomaston, GA 30286. Fletcher-Day Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
