Mrs. Sue W. Birdsong, 93, formerly of Thomaston, died Sunday evening, February 7, at The Waterford at Hidden Lakes in Canton, GA. Funeral services for Mrs. Birdsong will be held on Saturday, February 13, at 2:00 PM, at the First Presbyterian Church of Thomaston with Dr. Glenn Gilstrap officiating. Interment will follow in Glenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at First Presbyterian Church on Saturday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM. Mrs. Birdsong was born in Gainesville, GA, on October 10, 1927, to the late Vertis Bagwell Waldrip and the late Eula Dot Boleman. She was a graduate of Gainesville High School and earned a BS degree in Education from GSCW, now known as Georgia State College and University. Mrs. Birdsong taught at R. E. Lee and at Westwood Academy. She was a founding member of the Upson Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, a member of the Thomaston Garden Club, and a driver for the local cancer car ministry. Mrs. Birdsong was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Thomaston where she served as one of the church's first female Elders. She was also a Sunday School teacher and served faithfully on many committees within the church. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Birdsong was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Summers Birdsong whom she married in 1950, and a brother, Lamar Waldrip. Survivors include her four children: Charlene Thomason of Clarksville,TN; Henry (Lynn) Birdsong of Hoschton, GA; George (Leigh) Birdsong of Woodstock, GA: and Katherine (Brian) Birdsong-Wilmoth of Virginia; five grandchildren: Dr. Katherine (Calen) Verbist; Jonathan (Cecelia) Thomason; Brian Birdsong; Paul (Stefy Stand) Birdsong; and Anna Lynn (Brian) Birdsong McCoy; one great granddaughter, Gwenyth Verbist; and nieces and nephews: Susan McDonald, Steve Waldrip, and Sherry Waldrip. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to First Presbyterian Church of Thomaston, 403 Birdsong Street, Thomaston, GA 30286.
