Mrs. Susan Anna Bruce, age 88, of Quincy, IL, died Wednesday, May 1, 2024, in Columbus, GA, following a brief illness while traveling. Cremation rites have been accorded and a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
A Quincy native, Sue was born April 24, 1936, the daughter of Clarence and Etta Goodapple. She graduated from Quincy High School with the class of 1954 and later obtained a BS of Nursing from Blessing School of Nursing.
She spent a number of years in the St. Louis area working as a Maternity RN and raising a family before returning to Quincy. She retired from Blessing Hospital after 23 years of service. Sue spent the next 23 years following her dreams of travel to Buckingham Palace, helicoptering to an Alaskan Glacier, and riding a mule through the Grand Canyon. When not traveling, she volunteered for the Friends of the Library, the Historical Society of Adams County, and the German Village Society.
Sue was an avid collector, especially of stamps, and enjoyed attending philatelic conventions throughout the US and Canada. She loved writing letters and the art of correspondence. Sue was a long time member of St John’s Anglican Church.
Sue is survived by three children: Jeff and friend Julie of Quincy; Rowan Redwood, formerly Judi, of Tucson, AZ; Jim and wife Debbie of Junction City, GA and; granddaughters: Chelsea (fiancé Tyler) of Quincy and Madison (fiancé Jason) of Lacey, WA; and her sister Sara Goodapple of Quincy. She was preceded in death by her parents.
