Ms. Bessie Jo Franklin Williams, age 83, a cherished member of the Thomaston community, died on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at Riverside Health and Rehab in Thomaston, Georgia.
Born on July 8, 1941, in Thomaston, she was the daughter of Joseph P. Franklin and Bessie Lenell Salter Spillers. Bessie Jo was a dedicated seamstress who spent many years of her career with the William Carter Company, where her skills and artistry were greatly valued. She was a graduate of the R.E. Lee Institute, class of 1959, which laid the foundation for her pursuit of creativity and craftsmanship in both her personal and professional life. An artist at heart, Bessie Jo delighted in painting and embraced her creativity passionately. Her ability to express herself through art brought joy not only to her but also to those who were fortunate to witness her creations. Bessie Jo's proudest accomplishments include her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She held a special affection for her family, particularly elated by the joy of having her youngest granddaughter named after her, Bessie Jo Williams.
She is survived by her son, Steve (Teresa) Williams; five grandchildren, Jeremiah (Jessica) Williams, Julie (Allen) Cox, Joshua (Sara) Williams, Bo Thompson, and Joshua Shaw; as well as thirteen great-grandchildren, Chase Cox, Ty Cox, Elizabeth Cox, Kenzie Williams, Roman Williams, Lathan Wilborn, Jaden Pollard, Bessie Jo Williams, Charlie Williams, Jagger Williams, Haiden Thompson, Penelope Thompson, and Julieahna Shaw. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Bessie Jo was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph P. Franklin and Bessie Lenell Salter Spillers, and her sister Sandra Herring. Her legacy lives on through those she loved and influenced, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
In accordance with her wishes, the family will hold a private service at a later time.
