Margaret Gregory Chapman (known to all as Lorie) 84, who resided with her son & daughter-in-law (David & Adaline) in Atlanta, passed away May 23, 2022, after a brief illness from cancer. She passed peacefully, at home surrounded by loved ones. A service to honor and celebrate the life of Lorie will be held on Friday, May 27, at 3:00 PM, at Upson Memorial Gardens. Following the service, she will be laid to rest next to her parents. Lorie was born in Greenwood, South Carolina, on October 15, 1937, a daughter of the late Carroll Leroy Gregory, Sr. and the late Mamie Leola Hogan Gregory. She was a graduate of Meriwether High School in Woodbury where she excelled at basketball. While in high school, she also participated in chorus as a soprano and was a member of the Beta Club. She was employed at Economy Supply on Short E Street in Thomaston as a bookkeeper prior to moving to Atlanta. Lorie was a spiritual person and she made sure she instilled those same values in her son, David. She had a “green thumb” and was also a great baker making delicious deserts and making up her own recipes. Her hobbies included macrame, crochet, needlepoint, cross stitch and other crafts. She also enjoyed fishing. David recounts growing up with her dogs, who were her best friends. Lorie was a loving mother and leaves behind to cherish her memory, her son, David (Adaline) Chapman; a grandson, Matthew David Chapman of Anderson, South Carolina; and a nephew, Roy Cantrell Gregory of Columbus. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Carroll Leroy Gregory, Jr., and her granddaughter, Heather Lynn Chapman. Fletcher-Day Funeral Home of Thomaston is in charge of all arrangements. Condolences and remembrances may be expressed at www.fletcherdayfuneralhome.com.
