She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the Medical College of Georgia and her Masters in Nursing from the University of Georgia. Margie lived for helping people which was demonstrated throughout her years of service in various positions of responsibility. She retired after 34 years of service with the state of Georgia's Division of Mental Health, Developmentally Disabled and Substance Abuse. She enjoyed reading - especially her Bible, spending time at the beach, and planting flowers just to enjoy the blooms. Margie loved spending time with her family and friends. She was the first female to be inducted into the Georgia National Guard. She was proud of her membership in the Sigma Theta Tau Society, American Nurses Association, and the Georgia Nurses Association where she served in various positions. Surviving family members include one brother, John Pitts and wife Loyce of Forsyth, GA; two nieces; one nephew; several great nieces and nephews; good friend, Nona Ramsey; and her 14-year-old Chihuahua, Robyn. She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnnie and Omie Ellington Pitts, of Thomaston, GA. The family thanks the caregivers at Kentwood Nursing Facility for their wonderful and professional care they provided Margie during her time in their facility. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Margie's honor to the Alzheimer's Association, 1899 Central Ave., Augusta, GA 30904.
