Mr. McCarty was a native of Oglethorpe but had made his home in Upson County for many years. He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force and was a shop supply clerk for Thomaston Mills for over 40 years. Mr. McCarty was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church and had served as a Deacon for four years. He is survived by his wife, Fleta D. McCarty of Thomaston; two daughters, Debbie M. (Phil) Powers and Dianne M. (Claude Grant) Kennedy, both of Thomaston; two sons, Randy (Wanda) McCarty, Jr., of Jones County and David (Debbie “Buckwheat”) McCarty of Thomaston; a sister, Elizabeth Leverett of Barnesville and a brother, Robert McCarty of Bonaire; four grandchildren, Steve (Sandy) Powers, Kelly (Jay) Elliott, Crystal McCarty and Cindy McCarty, all of Thomaston; and five great grandchildren, Ansley Powers, MacKenzie Powers, Kade Powers, Dalton Elliott and Lauren Elliott. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Brightmoore Hospice, 3223 Newnan Hwy., Griffin, GA 30223
