Raymond A. Ash

Mr. Raymond Ash, age 85, of Yatesville, died Monday, December 26, 2016, at Piedmont Newnan Hospital. Funeral services for Mr. Ash will be held Saturday, December 31, at 10:00 AM, at the Rock Springs Church in Milner, GA. Dr. Bennie Tate and Rev. Joe Allen will officiate. Burial will be in the Old Union Baptist Church Cemetery in Young Harris, GA, at 4:00 PM, with Rev. Ricky Rogers officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 30, from 5 until 8 PM at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home of Thomaston. Mr. Ash, a son of the late Joseph Marion and Ila Mae Young Ash, was a native of Blairsville. GA. He was a graduate of Union County High School, Truett-McConnell College, and the University of Georgia. He was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force, having served his country during the Korean War. Mr. Ash was employed as the Agriculture Teacher at Yatesville High School and later worked for the Georgia Department of Education where he assisted schools in the state as they planned for facility needs expansion. He was a member of GA MOPS, was a Gideon, and had served as a deacon at Yatesville Baptist Church. Mr. Ash is survived by his wife, Carol Ash, of Yatesville, GA; two daughters: Carolyn (Rick) Arbuckle of Peachtree City, GA, and Lisa Ash Baxter of Thomaston; one son: Jamey Ash of Thomaston; two sisters: Ruby Nix of Springfield, GA, and Genelle (Roger) Gordon of Stone Mountain, GA; 7 grandchildren: Cody Baggett, Christina 'Abby' Baxter, Connor James Ash, Jonathan Payne, Nick (Bess) Arbuckle, Greg (J. D.) Arbuckle, and Kelly Arbuckle; two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. It is the request of the family than any of Mr. Ash's former students serve as honorary pall bearers for the funeral service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Children's Building Fund of Rock Springs Church, 219 Rock Springs Road, Milner, GA. 30257.
