Rev. Chester Lee Singletary, 90, of Thomaston, died Wednesday, January 23, 2019, at Upson Regional Medical Center. Graveside funeral services for Rev. Singletary will be held on Sunday, January 27, 2019, at 2:00 PM, in the Elkins Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Jimmy Wright officiating. The family of Rev. Singletary will receive friends at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home on Sunday from 12:00 noon until 1:30 PM. Rev. Singletary was born in Dexter, GA, on June 22, 1928, a son of the late Else David and Rosa Lee Singletary. He served his country in the U. S. Marine Corp during the Korean conflict. After his military service he worked for several years as a welder and a safety engineer. Rev. Singletary answered the call of God to preach the gospel and served as a pastor at various churches. He loved the public safety community and for a number of years he served as chaplain for the Upson County Sheriff's Office and Jail, several fire departments in the community, and as a chaplain for Upson Regional Medical Center. Rev. Singletary loved his family and was known as "Preacher" and "Granddaddy". Rev. Singletary is survived by two sons, Steven (Lisa) Singletary and Terry (Lynn) Singletary, both of Thomaston; a brother, Homer (Cookie) Singletary of Warner Robins; ten grandchildren, Eddie Lee Singletary, Jessica Brooke Singletary, Rebecca Charlene Singletary, Cassandra Louise Langford, Sarah Beth Rowe, Joshua Caleb Singletary, Heather Adams, Rocky Maher, Stephen Caleb Singletary and Jacob William Singletary; 15 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his good friend and hero, Jerry Weldon. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Violet Louise Savage Singletary, two sons, Glenn Singletary and Billy Ray Singletary, and a granddaughter, Stephanie Joy Singletary.
