Rev. Joseph "Jabbo" Lamar Allen

February 10, 1951 — October 26, 2021

Rev. Joseph "Jabbo" Lamar Allen, 70, of Thomaston, died Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, GA. Funeral services for Rev. Allen will be held Friday, October 29, at 11;00 AM, at the Silvertown Baptist Church. Rev. Jim Pitts and Rev. Travis Graham will officiate. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Danville, GA, at 4:00 PM, with Rev. Dwayne Bedingfield officiating. The family will receive friends at Silvertown Baptist Church on Friday from 10:00 until the funeral hour. Rev. Allen was born to the late Bernard Joseph Allen and Zoe Clements Allen on February 10, 1951, in Macon, GA, and grew up in Gordon, GA. He was a graduate of Mercer University and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. His first pastorate was Yatesville Baptist Church (1975-1977), and he also pastored Rock Spring Baptist Church in Louisburg, NC (1977-1982), Silvertown Baptist Church in Thomaston (1982-2003), and retired as Associational Missionary for the Centennial Baptist Association (2003-2011). He was currently a member and retired worship leader at Valley Grove Baptist Church. Joe’s legacy was developed over his lifetime, and it really manifested at Silvertown Baptist Church in Thomaston. He helped create a Church with people at heart. He was born a leader and answered God’s calling to devote his life to God’s work, and he wouldn’t take personal credit for any of his accomplishments. He found most outdoor activities enjoyable, especially entertaining family and friends at Lake Sinclair. He also loved to fish, but unless his brother-n-law or friends were with him, he did more “fishing” than “catching”. Other than his faith in Christ, family was his most prized possession. He loved his-in-laws like his own brothers and sisters, and nieces and nephews like sons and daughters. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, whether splitting wood, watching their sporting events, or simply being in their presence. He was married for over 52 to years to his God-loving, faithful wife who initially led him to Christ. Most times, when you saw Jabbo, Reba was near his side and always on his mind and in his heart. Rev. Allen is survived by his wife, Reba Allen of Thomaston; three sons: Joey Allen of Bishop, GA; Jason (Alisa) Allen of Franklin, TN; and Ben Allen of Thomaston; a sister, Mrs. Rhonda (Tony) Allen of Danville, GA; and a brother, David (Lisa) Allen of Gordon, GA. Eight grandchildren also survive. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Valley Grove Baptist Church, 1372 Atwater Road, Thomaston, GA 30286, or to Silvertown Baptist Church Soup Kitchen, 300 W. Goodrich Avenue, Thomaston, GA 30286. Fletcher-Day Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements. Condolences and remembrances may be expressed at www.fletcherdayfuneralhome.com.
