Richard Lewis Dean

Mr. Richard L. Dean, age 68, of Thomaston, died Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at Emory University Hospital. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 22, at 11:00 AM, in the chapel of the Fletcher-Day Funeral Home. Rev. Marc Pritchett will officiate, and burial will follow in Crystal Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday morning from 10:00 until the funeral hour at the funeral home. Mr. Dean was born August 2, 1947, in Thomaston, to the late Arlin Dean and Virginia Maddox Dean Cook. He served in the U. S. Army as an Infantry Ranger during the Vietnam War. He was the owner and operator of Richard Dean Painting and Remodeling and Vendetta Engine, specializing in go kart racing engines. He was a family man who loved his children and grandchildren. Mr. Dean was predeceased by his brother, Tommy Dean. Survivors include a daughter, Lacy Dean of Thomaston; a son, Richard 'Pete' Dean; and their mother and his life-long friend and caregiver, Patsy Dean of Thomaston; daughter-in-law, Nicki Adams; special friend and caregiver, Ellie Jones of Thomaston; three grandchildren: Erica (Drew) VanHouten of Barnesville, Carlyle Dean of Thomaston, Kensie Adams of Thomaston; two great grandchildren, Kaden and Addelyn VanHouten of Barnesville; five sisters: Sharon Reynolds of Clayton, GA; Phyllis Jones of Thomaston; Terry DeLoach of Pike County; Lynn (Ricky) Fuller of Thomaston; and Marie (Jackie) Taunton of Thomaston.; 3 brothers: Danny (Gloria) Cook, Larry Cook, and Tim (Renee) Cook, all of Thomaston. Several beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. Memorial contributions my be made to Southern Grace Hospice, 384 Race Track Rd., McDonough, GA 30252.
