Mr. Pilkenton was a Pike County native, the son of the late Robert Pilkenton and Mamie Boyd Pilkenton. In October of 1943 he married Carolyn Storey. They moved to Marietta and both worked for what was then the Bell Bomber Company. Shortly afterwards thePilkentons returned to Pike County where he helped run worked on the family farm. The Pilkenton Turkey farm raised over 50,000 turkeys at a time. In addition to farming, Mr. Pilkenton was active in community affairs. He served as a Pike County Commissioner for 23 years. Mr. Pilkenton was a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Robert Monroe Pilkenton, III. In addition to his wife, Mr. Pilkenton is survived by his daughters, Elaine (Harold) Dumas and Carol (Steve) Pettis, both of Molena; his sons, Robert M. 'Bob' (Mary) Pilkenton, Jr., of Thomaston and Wayne Pilkenton; two sisters, Frances Rappold and Patricia Pendley, both of Lilburn; his sister-in-law, Mary Pilkenton of Molena; six grandchildren, one great grandchild, and several step grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Olive Baptist Church Building Fund, 1177 Highway 109, Molena, GA 30258.
