Sergeant Major Retired Richard Lee Jenkins, age 75, of Thomaston, died on Friday, June 27, 2014, in Upson Regional Medical Center. SGM(Ret.) Jenkins was born in Fulton County, Georgia to the late Richard Jenkins and Hazel Juanita Berryhill Jenkins. He served in the United States Army for twenty four years and was R. E. Lee Institute R.O.T.C. Drill Team Leader from 1985 until 1992. After retiring, SGM(Ret.) Jenkins owned and operated Jenkins Trophy Company and drove a school bus for seventeen years. SGM(Ret) Jenkins is survived by his wife, Hanie Jenkins, of Thomaston; sons, David (April) Gilbert, of Pike County; Steven Jenkins, of Thomaston; Chris (Betty) Gilbert, of Thomaston; Scott Gilbert, of Atlanta; brother, Gary Jenkins, of Villa Rica; grandchildren, Cameron Gilbert, of Zebulon; and Anna Kate Gilbert, of Thomaston. The family will receive friends at Pasley-Fletcher Funeral Home on Saturday, June 28, 2014 from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM. A graveside memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 6, 2014, at 2:00 PM in Upson Memorial Gardens. Bishop Danny L. Henderson, Dr. Rex King and Rev. Marc Pritchett will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that memorial contributions be made to the Thomaston Church of God, 803 North Church Street., Thomaston, GA 30286.
