Sylvia Jorgeson Fehr

September 8, 1936 — January 7, 2012

Mrs. Fehr was a native of Thomaston, a daughter of the late Dr. C. E. Downs and Ruby Barwick Downs. She was a graduate of R. E. Lee Institute and the University of Georgia. Mrs. Fehr founded the WTGA Radio Station in Thomaston and was one of the original organizers of the Thomaston Upson Arts Council. Mrs. Fehr was a member of the First Baptist Church of Thomaston and was also an associate member of the Jekyll Island Presbyterian Community Church. Mrs. Fehr is survived by her husband, Dr. Don Fehr, whom she married in 1996; three step-daughters, Sue Turner of Richmond Hill, Nancy Meeden of Powder Springs and Betsy Turner of Brunswick; and three step-sons, Brent Jorgeson of Dallas, TX, Chuck Fehr of Saint Simons Island, and Pete Fehr of Macon. One niece, three nephews, and several great nieces and great nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by husbands George Strickland and Chuck Jorgeson, her sister, Laura Helen Newbern, and a step-son, Craig Jorgeson. A memorial service for Mrs. Feher will be held at First Baptist Church of Thomaston on Tuesday, January 10th, 2012 at 1 pm. The family will receive friends in the Church Fellowship Hall immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, Foreign Missions, 208 South Church St., Thomaston, GA 30286, or Thomaston Upson Arts Council, P. O. Box 211, Thomaston, GA 30286, in memory of Mrs. Fehr.
